Hand Rejuvenation or Hand Fat Grafting

Rejuvenation of the hand is a plastic surgery procedure where your own fat is used to “fill in” the hollow, collapsed areas on the back of the hand. This fat is also used to a help hide the prominent veins that also so often contribute to an elderly appearing hand. In many cases, the quality of the skin on the back of the hand also improves and the skin becomes less thin, brown spots fade and broken capillaries improve. The cosmetic surgery procedure is technically known as structural autologous fat grafting of the hand which simply means using your own fat to rebuild and rejuvenate the aging areas of your hand.

This procedure according to plastic surgeons is performed in a certified operating suite under local anesthesia with sedation. Sometimes, general anesthesia is employed. The technique involves removing or harvesting excess fat from around your mid-abdomen through a tiny incision at the edge of your navel. Even if you are thin, there is usually adequate fat to successfully rejuvenate both hands. After the fat is removed, it is prepared through a series of steps that preserve the stem cells present in the fat. Great care is taken to ensure the fat is healthy and able to maximally survive when transplanted. The fat is then transferred to the back of your hand by small syringes and small needles. There is usually no need for any sutures.
